I was raised in coastal North Carolina. I obtained my undergraduate degree in 1995 from Barton College, in Wilson, North Carolina, where I majored in political science and minored in religion and philosophy. Upon graduation from college, I worked in the insurance industry, having obtained licensure in health, life, property, and casualty insurance. Subsequently drawn to the practice of law, I attended Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Following graduation from law school, I returned to practice law in North Carolina where I was licensed in 2003. During the earlier portion of my career I maintained a general practice, focusing heavily on personal injury, workers‘ compensation, and family law. This provided me with a broad base of legal knowledge and experience. I have practiced in North Carolina District and Superior Courts, as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Industrial Commission and other state agencies, as well as the Social Security Administration. From 2012 to 2020, I practiced exclusively in the area of workers’ compensation, representing hundreds and hundreds of injured employees.
I live in the Winston-Salem area with my amazing wife of nearly 25 years and our 2 beautiful kids. An avid music fan, I love to attend a wide range of concerts with friends and family. Be prepared for a long conversation if you get me started on music. My family is very involved in youth sports. In fact, prior to hanging up my whistle, I coached basketball for 4 years and soccer for 27 seasons. Whenever we can find a free weekend to get away, my family and I enjoy a return to the coast where I spend time boating, fishing, and catching up with old friends.
